The
Finnish Medico-Historical Society announces call for papers for the 2018 volume
of Hippokrates. Published by the
society since 1984, Hippokrates is an
annual, peer-reviewed journal specialising in the history of medicine. We
welcome a wide range of topics, e.g. history of medical practice and medical
science, history of diseases, social history of medicine and history of
pharmacy and veterinary medicine.
Hippokrates
mainly features articles written in Finnish and Swedish, with abstracts in
English. In the recent years, however, it has been opened for articles in other
languages as well. While we consider it crucial to support the accessibility of
scientific articles in national languages, we are also aware of the growing
need of researchers to publish in English. Furthermore, we wish to increase the
availability of Nordic research on medical history to wider international
audiences.
To
accommodate these goals, and to create possibilities for greater scientific cooperation
and networks within the diverse field of medical history in the Nordic
countries, we have decided that the 2018 volume of Hippokrates will have an emphasis on articles written in English.
Articles should be sent by August 31st, 2018; the deadline for abstracts of
proposed articles is 31st May, 2018.
Hippokrates
has an editorial board consisting mainly of academic professionals and is
classified as a level 1 publication on the Finnish national Publication Forum. The
process of turning Hippokrates into a
fully Open Access publication is underway, as well as the digitalisation of
previous volumes.
